I'm participating in the
inspired by THIS picture from Vogue!
Have you ever gone back and looked at pictures of your home and thought, "What was I thinking?!" I do that all the time. It's probably because I change things around so much that I don't ever remember what it used to look like. For example, I posted this photo of my Living Room Progress several months ago, and it looks like a completely different house. The light colored dining room! The mantle! The TV stand!
Last January (I'm slow with projects), I bought this at an auction for a song. I hated the original paint color, although it's typical French Provincial style, Nick liked it. He affectionately nicknamed the color "banana pudding". Since I hate both the actual desert and the metaphor, I painted it primer white while I debated on what else to do with it. It sat like that for almost a year. I decided that the white had really grown on me, so I decided to stick with that...but with a little twist. Here is the dresser BEFORE:
And AFTER:
I painted it a sleek semi-gloss white, and then I taped off the bottom and legs and gave them several coats of Martha Stewart paint in Vintage Gold.
I added an IKEA orchid and a Target emerald decanter to better match my DIY Malachite Tray.
I love that in some lights, it looks like a deep, warm gold...and in other light, it looks light and bright.
I'm working on an eclectic gallery wall to surround the TV, but for now, one of my abstract paintings sits all by its lonely self in a rubb-n-buff frame.
I think I'm in love...and I'm also in love with the graphic black and whites as well as the vibrant pops of color that keep showing up in the living room!
Who knows, though...maybe in a few months I'll look back on this picture and think, "WHAT WAS I THINKING?!" Here's hoping.

ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! The gold dipped look gives it a custom feel- totally worth a year! I stared at my kitchen hutch for two years before I painted it green! I'm kind of a furniture painting junkie. I'm actually on the lookout for a piece like that for our tv room as well!
